CHARITY INFORMATION

The charity was started in April 1980 and was registered as the “John Crawford Memorial Fund” and set up by the family of John Crawford a retired R.N. officer who died from cancer and who was associated with the island from 1949. The family realised from first-hand experience that the various treatments required involved lengthy stays off island incurring significantly high costs associated with travel and accommodation, and such expense could lead to added stress and hardship to some island patients that they believed merited support.

The charity is registered as a charity with the Guernsey Registry registration no.CH084 and the Association of Guernsey Charities number 083 and was renamed Alderney Cancer Relief in 1992 to be more synonymous with its aims.

The charity is run on an entirely voluntary basis and administered by:

Mr. J.A.V. Roberts - Trustee & Chairman

Mr. R. Featherstone BSc. BA CA FCA - Trustee & Treasurer

Dr. J. Cooper MRCGP FRCS(Ed) DRCOG MBChB BSc - Trustee

Mrs. L. Cauvain BSc. Hons. (Nursing) - Trustee

Mrs. S. Donaldson - Hon. Secretary

The charity’s main area of help is to provide financial and practical assistance for cancer patients domiciled on Alderney associated with off island treatment and care, when most patients must travel to either Southampton or Guernsey.

The charity was honoured to receive the Queen’s Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service in 2015.
